M40-66, A Modern Spin on the Vietnam Era M40 Sniper Rifle

Patterned after the 1966 Original M40 Sniper Rifle as commissioned by the United States Marine Corp, the M40-66, offers the classic look of the original, but hand built with 100% match grade components. Hand fitted and beautifully oil finished walnut stock is carefully bedded giving both old school elegance and practical function. Each rifle is test fired and guaranteed to shoot inside 1/2MOA with factory match ammunition.

“Thanks to Steve Englebrecht for this image of him in Hue City in 1968 with his M40 rifle. Steve was wounded in the Tet Offensive shortly after this.”

We Guarantee sub 1/2MOA accuracy as demonstrated by this typical 100yd 5 shot group (Hornady factory match 168gr ammo).

M40-66 can also be equipped with modern optics for a true 1000yd capable precision rifle.

Although the original walnut stock was not fancy, we added a beautiful Claro walnut as an option for those wishing to make this a presentation piece or elegant bean field hunting rifle.

Detailed Specifications on the Retro M40-66 Sniper Rifle

Caliber – .308 Winchester / 7.62 NATO Match

Action– The tried and tested, battle- proven Remington 700 action is blue printed and fully accurized.

Barrel– The stainless steel, match grade, bench-rest quality barrel with 1/10 twist is meticulously hand lapped to exact tolerances. We insist on a maximum bore variation of .00001.

Recoil lug – A Precision ground stainless heavy-weight magnum recoil lug has been installed for improved alignment.

Trigger– The match-grade, single stage trigger is perfectly tuned to a 2.75 pound release (approximate), with no creep and no over travel.

Bottom Metal– An upgraded heavy weight stainless steel hinged bottom metal assembly provides added strength with smooth traditional looking lines.

Stock– This Top Grade American Walnut stock has a hand rubbed oil finish with a glare-free dull luster, far superior to the original M40. The added 1 inch Pachmayr Decelerator leaves relieves the discomfort associated with steel butt-plate of the 0riginal, and turns the ’66 into a soft shooting rifle.

Bedding– Pillar bedded. The barrel channel is sealed and bedded to retain the rigidity of the fore end. The stock’s interior is also sealed to prevent moisture from changing harmonics.

OPTICS – Recommended Optics to accompany your new M40-66 Sniper Rifle.

These OD green, 3-9x40mm riflescopes feature a Mil Dot reticle, a tactile post on the power selector, and have an appearance that is more authentic to the original USMC M40 riflescopes used in the Vietnam War.

Built in Oregon, these M40 riflescopes feature a multi-coated illuminator lens system, ¼-MOA adjustments and Redfield’s exclusive Rapid Target Acquisition® eyepiece. This limited run honors the Redfield Accurange scope mounted on Vietnam era M40 sniper rifles. Rifle shooters building a replica M40 can now mount an appropriate scope for the time.

Although not period correct, mil-std 1913 bases can also be added to the rifle for convenient mounting of modern optics such as the Leupold Mark 4.

Badger Ordnance has made a limited run of Replica M40 Redfield Style rings and base. These are exact replicas with the exception of the Redfield markings. These are made to fit current production Remington M700 rifles. They are not to be used on rifles with an “A” prefix serial number or older. They come assembled and ready to bolt on.

“Hi-Lux Optics is now recreating this 1960′s era scope for all of those “old school” sharpshooters among us, those who take the time to know the trajectory of the loads they shoot. However, we’ve made some major internal improvements. The optics are far superior to that of the original, with precision ground lenses that are fully multi-coated for maximum light transmission. We’ve also added positive 1/4″ click adjustments to the windage and elevation turrets.”
